[plus]The museum forms part of the 50-acre Caerleon Roman Fortress (Roman Fortress of Isca) which is part of the Heritage Trail, dates from A.D. 75 and was manned for more than two centuries. The site includes the Baths, Amphitheatre, stone defences and Barracks which were excavated in 1927 and are the only remaining legionary barracks in Europe. Artefacts from the excavations are on display at the National Roman Legion Museum, which also has a small shop and offers disabled access.
The museum is open daily from 10h00 to 17h00, except on Sundays (14h00 to 17h00) and entrance is free. The museum collection comprises half a million items relating to the life and cultural heritage of the Roman Period and is actively involved in ongoing research and educational programmes. Details of forthcoming events are available at the website.
