It displays exhibitions on local geology and natural history to paint a comprehensive picture of the area from prehistoric, Roman and medieval times to the present. Items on display include pottery, paintings, costumes, a Victorian schoolroom or an example of life on a farm where the making of cheese and butter is explained.
The museum also holds temporary exhibitions for which information can be gained from the website.
