Description
The National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque was established to promote and preserve the arts and humanities of Hispanic communities worldwide
[plus]The National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque was established to promote and preserve the arts and humanities of Hispanic communities worldwide, the United States in particular. The center maintains a permanent visual arts collection, an archives of rare documents, and a research library. Programs supported by the center include those focused on visual arts, performing arts (e.g., plays, concerts, dance, and festival events), media arts, history and literature, genealogy, and education.
Architecturally, the facility borrows from Spanish, mesoamerican, and Spanish colonial design elements. Built around a main plaza, which was designed to accommodate outdoor festivals, the center includes an art museum, performing arts venues, lecture halls, and a computer resource center. Water features, gardens, and smaller plazas are also part of the overall design. The restaurant features New Mexican cuisine, and the museum shop offers a selection of books and in English and Spanish.
Visitors should check the events calendar for upcoming programs and exhibitions.
